Anthony Hopkins to Play Odin in Thor!

Anthony Hopkins has been cast as Norse god Odin in Marvel Studios‘ Thor, to be directed by Kenneth Branagh starting January.

Odin is the father of Thor and Loki, to be played by Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston, respectively. Natalie Portman is playing Thor’s love interest, Jane Foster.

In the movie, written by Mark Protosevich and Zack Stentz, the powerful but arrogant warrior Thor’s reckless actions re-ignite an ancient war. As punishment, Thor is cast down to Earth and forced to live among humans. Once here, he learns what it takes to be a true hero when the most dangerous villain of his world sends dark forces of Asgard to invade Earth.

Paramount Pictures will release the film on May 20, 2011.

Wave of bans hits Xbox Live

As many as 600,000 Xbox 360s were banned from the Xbox Live service this week in the latest in a series of crackdowns by Microsoft on illegally modified consoles.

The banned machines — a “small percentage” of the millions of Xbox 360s around the world — are alleged to have been modified in ways that violate Xbox Live’s terms of service, but Microsoft won’t say exactly how they can tell, nor exactly how many users were affected. Banned consoles can still play games, but can’t connect to the Xbox Live service for multiplayer gaming, content downloads or software updates.

“All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live,” Microsoft said in a statement today.

The bans were apparently timed to coincide with yesterday’s release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, expected to be by far the biggest gaming event of the year. One affected Call of Duty fan, a self-confessed software pirate called “Raz,” told the BBC about his disappointment.

Owners of modded 360s will no longer be allowed to play online.

“It was a big day yesterday, the latest game we’ve been waiting months and months for. We’ve played the whole series and this one’s come out, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2…I sign in online and next thing I see, ‘Your console has been banned from Xbox’…now I don’t know what to do,” he told the BBC’s Newsbeat.

Most law-abiding gamers will have little sympathy for Raz — but at least one banned Xbox owner claims to have been targeted by accident, and that Microsoft won’t listen to his excuses.

“My console and my fiance’s console were caught up in the Mass Banning going on by Microsoft in their latest Pirate Witch Hunt. My fiance is a chef, and plays games like Viva Pinata, Arcade Games, and can’t figure out how to remove the battery pack, much less tear apart her system to ‘mod’ anything,” he told The Consumerist.

He’s had little luck with Microsoft’s customer service, either. “At one point a man who called himself ‘Charles’ told me that it was my problem and I should learn to follow the rules, then hung up on me,” he said.

Comedian Katt Williams posts bond, calls alleged burglary a’ misunderstanding’

Comedian Katt Williams kept it light at his bond hearing Monday, telling the judge he could have his $200,000 Bentley if it would get him out of jail quicker.

Coweta County Magistrate Judge Joseph Wyatt settled for a $41,150 bail for the actor and TV personality, charged with felony burglary and misdemeanor criminal trespassing.

Williams was arrested Sunday night after the an employee at the Coweta estate where the comedian is staying called 911 to report a break-in at a guesthouse located on the property. The caller said the 36-year-old part-time Atlantan stole jewelery and other personal items, though Coweta County Sheriff Mike Yeager said authorities have not located the missing merchandise.

“This was a misunderstanding between me and two stupid detectives,” said Williams as he emerged from the Coweta jail Monday night. He was mobbed by about 50 excited fans before departing in a van filled with friends and associates.

In court Judge Wyatt agreed this was no “typical” burglary. Williams said he was staying at producer Barry Hankerson’s Coweta estate, located in the 3400 block of Smokey Road, while in town filming a movie about President Barack Obama.

“I was in the middle of a birthday party” when arrested, Williams told the judge. “I’m one of the most honorable people in my profession,” said the father of eight children, seven of whom were adopted.

This wouldn’t be the first time police were dispatched to the Coweta estate. An unidentified 17-year-old called 911 on Nov. 3, claiming Williams was holding him against his will.

“He threatened to beat me up,” said the caller, who told a sheriff’s deputy he was trying to catch a plane to New York City. No charges were filed but the incident remains under investigation.

It’s been a turbulent year for the comedian, whose birth name is Micah Williams. He was arrested almost a year ago to the day in New York City for gun possession, though charges were eventually dropped.

He was also reportedly admitted to a South Carolina psychiatric ward last November. His publicist at the time blamed his erratic behavior on exhaustion.

Williams’ credits include the comedy “First Sunday” and the Eddie Murphy film, “Norbit.” He also headlined an HBO special, “Katt Williams: Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1,” shot in Atlanta.

Loving this show more and more the plot twists are staying interesting but I am still seeing traces of the X-Men in this show.

I cannot wait until tomorrow with the release of MW2. This is how I spend my time relaxing within simulated chaos and confusion. Better on a video game than in real life I say!!
